Arabia’s Fazer Moomin Mug – do not drop this mug.
If you happen to own one of these mugs, you are one of the lucky 400. This is the rarest Moomin mug. Only 400 Pieces were made for Fazer Cafe in Helsinki, Finland. The mugs are numbered and you can find the serial number of the Fazer mug on the bottom stamp.
The mug’s design is based on an ad that Tove Jansson made in the 1950’s.
Fazer mug in Cellophane
Believe it or not, at first Fazer mugs were struggling to sell, so Fazer cafe decided to wrap the mugs in cellophane to make them look more appealing. The ones with cellophane are often slightly more expensive than the ones without it.
Why is Fazer Moomin mug so expensive?
Arabia made a total of 400 Fazer Moomin mugs, but actually only 380 were sold. The first 20 were given as gifts to the Fazer Family. (Numbers 1 to 20)
The mugs never had labels on them. Fazer mugs were sold sometimes with a Fazer ribbon or cellophane wrap on them. Since only 400 mugs were sold, but increasing amount of people wanted to get their hands on Fazer mug – it caused the price of the mug to go up. Fazer Moomin mugs have been going up in value ever since.
Arabia Fazer Moomin is considered the most expensive Moomin mug, even though Dive with Seashells has been sold for more money in the past. However, Seashell version of the mug was never in production so most Moomin mug collectors don’t count it as a part of the Arabia Moomin mug Series. Where Fazer Moomin mug is the Moomin number 27, Dive with Seashells isn’t numbered, but falls under Dive Moomin mug, numbered 32.
